We were honored to be selected to work with the owners of this 17th century chateau and working horse farm to create a landscape master plan for a large section of the property directly behind the home. The client asked us to reimagine the traditional French parterre, bringing fresh eyes to what could have been designed as a formal, geometric, typically French garden.  The design that we developed and that was installed, has a strong central axis, in line with the center of the home. From there we developed several distinctive garden sections, two gardens on the left and one on the right, complete with a rectangular reflecting pool and three terraces. We stressed balance over absolute symmetry, creating a landscape where the garden is visually interesting and functional. We were also integral in taking the design from concept to installation. Starting with a tree buying trip to Holland, where we found twenty mature trees, to meeting the truck carrying them to the site, to working for three days in the rain with the French planting crew, we made sure that the design came together as planned. The client worked with local stone masons, overseeing the installation of the terraces and walks.
